Husband backs new brain cancer research centre, following death of wife at 39

A LEICESTERSHIRE man is backing a £2.6 million investment from Brain Tumour Research to launch a research centre in the East Midlands, focused on finding a cure for the type of brain cancer that claimed his wife's life.

Jonny Coxon, 40, from Burton on the Wolds, lost his wife Charlotte, a devoted mum-of-two, in July 2024 after she was diagnosed with a glioblastoma - an aggressive and incurable type of brain cancer.
The new Brain Tumour Research Centre of Excellence at the University of Nottingham will embark on a world-first study to predict glioblastoma recurrence, using advanced MRI imaging and genomic techniques, and accelerate progress towards a cure.
Jonny said: "This is a really positive step as we continue to increase understanding and improve outcomes around brain tumours. Dedicated expertise and resources are needed, and this will be a hugely important central hub to add to the existing research network.
