Airport will help choose right time to demolish the towers at Ratcliffe

GOAL TO MINIMISE DISRUPTION TO FLIGHTS AS SITE DECOMMISSIONED
OFFICIALS at East Midlands Airport will help to pick the right time for the cooling towers at Ratcliffe-on-Soar Power Station to be demolished.
The last unit at the power station was officially closed on September 30 last year, after 57 years of power generation.
About 120 staff remain on the site to help with the decommissioning, which is set to take about two years.
A key element will be the demolition of the 114m-high cooling towers. The walls of each tower are seven inches thick and constructed from reinforced concrete.
Airport managing director Steve Griffiths, right, said conversations have begun with Uniper, the company responsible for the power station.
