Siblings step out and raise £30k to say thanks

SIBLINGS from the Gwendraeth Valley in Carmarthenshire have raised more than £30,000 by doing a three-day walking challenge between Cardiff and their home village to raise money for causes that helped in their mother's cancer battle.

Lowri and Aled Thomas from Drefach, have raised £12,000 for the Chemotherapy Day Unit at Llanelli's Prince Philip Hospital, where their mum was treated.

They achieved this incredible sum by walking from the University of Wales Heath Hospital in Cardiff to Drefach, and by holding a charity night with an auction.

The epic walk took Lowri and Aled from Cardiff to Singleton Hospital in Swansea and past Prince Philip Hospital, before ending in their home village.

Last year, their mother Ann was diagnosed with myeloma a blood cancer that affects the bone marrow. She is doing well and has finished treatment for now. The journey mirrored the path their mum took during her treatment, from harvesting her stem cells at the Heath to receiving her stem cell transplant in Singleton and receiving continuing care at the unit at Prince Philip Hospital in Llanelli.
