For a cleaner, greener Llanelli
Llanelli Star
|July 16, 2025
AN AMBITIOUS drive has been launched to make Llanelli cleaner and greener, with the aim of it becoming Wales's first Zero Waste Town.
The plan is being spearheaded by Foothold Cymru and aims to help create a sustainable future and support a “circular economy in the town”.
The community-led initiative was unveiled at Llanelli Library with the launch of a Zero Waste Alliance Charter supported by changemakers across the town.
Foothold Cymru spokesman Nick Pearce said: “We are currently consuming resources as though we have two planets - we only have one. Clearly, we need to start doing things differently and waste-reduction is a critical part of transitioning to a sustainable future - not only for ourselves but for generations to come.”
Pupils from Llanelli's Ysgol Penrhos were at the event, joined by town mayor Cllr Andrew Bragoli.
