Ex-Toffee Chermiti a hero for Rangers
Liverpool Sunday Echo
|January 04, 2026
FORMER Everton striker Youssef Chermiti scored twice in the Old Firm derby to record one of the biggest moments in his career.
The forward helped Rangers come from behind to deliver a stunning away win at Celtic on Saturday afternoon.
The goals represented a breakthrough for the 21-year-old, whose move to Ibrox in the summer was the subject of questions from supporters.
The £8m deal that took him to Scotland was brokered by Kevin Thelwell, the director of football who brought him to Everton in the summer of 2023 and then made him the landmark signing of his first summer in that same role at Rangers.
Thelwell has since left the club after a poor start to the season - one in which the Chermiti deal was one of several pieces of business that attracted criticism.
