REGULARS TOAST SOCIAL CLUB'S NEW ERA AFTER 80 YEARS
A SOCIAL club with more than seven decades of history holds a special place in its community's heart.
The Bronze Club in Wallasey opened its doors in 1946 and has since seen hundreds of members celebrate everything from birthdays and christenings to weddings and funerals.
Some of its members have been frequenting the club for more than 50 years and have held many sentimental events inside its four walls, including their children's birthday parties.
Jean Carlile, 72, told the ECHO how she started going to the club by chance 30 years ago, with her husband Gary, and after falling in love with its charm, the couple made it their weekly spot.
She said: "We used to go out with friends all the time when we were younger and one time we said lets go up to The Bronze.
"We didn't think they would let us in but we walked up anyway and they did, they signed us in and we started going quite regularly.
"We didn't use the function room back then because we thought it was a bit too old for us but they had a lovely lounge at the time, it was very comfortable. It became our regular and we'd go up weekly.
"Over time we got to know everyone very well and we'd celebrate occasions and anniversaries there. My husband, who sings and plays guitar, got asked to play there one night and we ended up being quite involved with the club and functions.
