TRANMERE Rovers captain Richie Smallwood was left disappointed with his side’s 2-1 defeat to League Two high-flyers Swindon Town after conceding a 93rd minute winner at the County Ground.

The hosts took the lead through veteran forward Ollie Palmer before Kristian Dennis netted a rebound, following in from substitute Jayden Joseph's shot from range.

The Robins put the game beyond the visitors’ reach late in stoppage time, just moments after Dennis’ 88th minute equaliser, with a fantastic strike courtesy of 20-year-old wingback Finley Munroe.

Smallwood believes there wasn't much in the game but claims that his side should have come away with at least a point after getting themselves back in the game.

The 34-year-old said: “They are difficult to play against, but I thought we did well for large spells competing with the big man [Palmer] up top.

“They didn’t really have many chances and the chances that they did have, came from our own undoing - especially the goals.

“It was really disappointing once we got the goal and showed a bit of character to get back into it and then lose. We would have taken a point at that stage. I don’t know if we just switched off with a bit of naivety, I’m not too sure.”

Tranmere manager Andy Crosby was sent off following a stoppage time touchline incident, so his assistant Andy Parkinson took on the post-match media responsibilities.
