MICHAEL Keane has signed a new contract with Everton.

- By JOE THOMAS Everton FC Correspondent

The 32-year-old has penned a one-year agreement with the Blues just days after the expiration of his last deal.

The centre back will offer Blues boss David Moyes cover in a key area after talks with his camp led to fresh terms being discussed during the close season.

Keane had interest from elsewhere and Everton explored the centre back market before discussions accelerated last month.

There was an acceptance at Finch Farm that, should Keane depart, a replacement would be needed.

With that in mind, Moyes' preference was to attempt to reach a deal with the former Burnley man in order to retain a figure that he trusted as a squad player.
