BLUES SHOULDN'T BE LOOKING BACK RUEFULLY AT CALVERT-LEWIN’S HOT STREAK - HIS DEPARTURE WAS RIGHT
-
gation zone - I am genuinely pleased for him. I still think his move was the best for all parties though.
There was no shortage of fortune in the first two goals of Calvert-Lewin’s run of good form. Both saw him take advantage of defensive messes to help Leeds almost take a point from Manchester City and then win all three against Chelsea.
His third in a row came from the spot against Liverpool, hours after Barry's big breakthrough - we know how good he is from 12 yards.
While luck may have been on his side at the start of his scoring spree, there is a lot to be said about a forward being in the right place at the right time. And whether those goals in consecutive games were the result of fortune or judgement, both are a skill when it comes to finding the back of the net.
With his superb headers at Wolves, earlier in the season, and then on Saturday night, to earn Leeds a 1-1 draw against Brentford, they also take his tally in the Premier League to five for the season.
That is, of course, three more than Beto and Barry combined.
After Calvert-Lewin’s rescue acts at the Gtech Community Stadium, Leeds boss Daniel Farke said: “He was very unlucky in the last couple of years with injuries, but his quality was never in doubt and his CV speaks for itself.
“For me, he is one of the best English strikers in this league. Harry Kane is playing in Germany for Bayern Munich, but in the Premier League, he is definitely one of the best English strikers and he will be a key player for us going forward”
