Interpretation of game differs Down Under
Liverpool Echo
|November 01, 2025
IN an ideal world, the identity of the referee shouldn't make any difference to a game of rugby - or to any sport for that matter.
-
However - and I hope it doesn't come as too much of a shock - we don't live in an ideal world.
Last week's first Ashes Test at Wembley was refereed by Super League whistler Liam Moore while the man in the middle today will be Australian NRL official Grant Atkins.
This doesn't bode well for England's chances of levelling the series.
Don't get me wrong - I'm not impugning the integrity of Mr Atkins. I have no doubt he's excellent at his job and will go about his duties in a professional and unbiased manner.
