How horror injury put athlete Mia on track to help hundreds of children

FORMER RECORD BREAKER BOUNCED BACK AFTER KNEE SURGERY

A LIVERPOOL athlete overcame a “different” level of pain and transformed her fortunes by helping others.

Mia Morrisroe, 21, from Woolton, broke records as a child in athletics through her training at Liverpool Harriers and Athletic Club.

Based at the Lifestyles centre at Wavertree Sports Park, the club has produced Olympic stars such as Katarina Johnson-Thompson and Steve Smith in previous years. Mia was one of the highest-ranked child athletes in the UK and set records in Liverpool for her speed in 60m and 70m races.

She believed she was on the road to becoming a professional before lockdown hit in 2020, and as restrictions began to lift, she was raring to go again.

Mia, who had a job in a call centre, was preparing for an international competition when she offered to help out with her sister's lacrosse team and suffered a major injury.

Mia told the ECHO: “I think I started running when I was eight. I was just a naturally fast kid.

“I'd get up at 6am and I'd be crazyI'd want to do a workout, I'd want to go on a run, because I just wanted to be the best. I wasn’t interested in school or academics. I was just interested in running. I was on the road to become a pro.
