Garner, Grealish and Armstrong lead way

VERTON moved back into the top half of the Premier League table with a win Aston Villa.

- By JOE THOMAS

But not only that, it's a win that has revitalised the season after a poor start to 2026.With Everton still basking in the 1-0 victory, here are some of the moments beyond the headlines.

Garner steps up in front of the England manager

James Garner's bid for a call-up to the senior England side has become an undercurrent of this season. The 24-year-old has emerged as one of Everton's most influential and consistent performers and he delivered again as he helped his side to an impressive success at a team that had been rampant on home turf across recent months.

Garner's 29 defensive contributions were the most recorded by a single player in a Premier League game this season. He won possession five times, emerged the victor in five tackles and ended the game with a 91% pass completion rate.

It was also another occasion in which, in the absence of so many teammates, the former Manchester United youth star played with the authority of a senior player within his team. Just like when he delivered in the win at Old Trafford in November, Garner's top performance came with international boss Thomas Tuchel present.

After the match, Tuchel was spotted speaking with Moyes and it is hard to imagine the Blues manager did not state the case for a Garner call-up.

Grealish classy as ever despite the boos
