GALATASARAY boss Okan Buruk admits his team were fearful ahead of their 1-0 win over Liverpool in the Champions League, but said his players performed for the whole of Turkish football on the night.

Victor Osimhen's first-half penalty was enough for Gala on the night at RAMS Park as Arne Slot's Premier League champions suffered their second successive defeat following the 2-1 reverse to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Galatasaray lost their Champions League opener 5-1 to Eintracht Frankfurt, who Liverpool travel to next in the competition and Buruk conceded that the heavy defeat might have been playing on some minds ahead of kick off against the Reds.

"Of course, winning was wonderful," he said. "I thought the game was great, the atmosphere was great. First of all, I want to thank my players, who were the architects of this victory.
