Council set to approve tax rise of 5%

SAVINGS OF £50M ALSO PLANNED
LIVERPOOL Council will be asked to approve a council tax increase of almost 5% and plans to cut more than £50m from its budget over the next 12 months.
The local authority's cabinet has given its backing to a suite of proposals to fund the city for the coming financial year.
This includes a recommendation to all members to back a council tax rise of 4.99% when they meet to sign off the budget formally next week. This is the highest amount rates can go up by without a referendum.
Cllr Ruth Bennett, deputy leader of Liverpool Council, said the authority would set a “balanced and robust budget” with “modernisation and service improvement at its heart”. Around £7.5m is to be invested into upgrading street cleaning and city parks.
