ALEXIS MAC ALLISTER says he was delighted to see “amazing” Alexander Isak get off the mark in the Premier League after Liverpool beat West Ham United 2-0 on Sunday to move into the top half of the table.

And Argentina international Mac Allister also feels talk of his fitness issues this campaign have been overplayed, claiming the debate has raged simply due to the run of poor results Liverpool have been on for the last two months.

Isak, who joined the champions on September 1 for a British-record fee of £125m from Newcastle United, scored the opening goal at the London Stadium before Cody Gakpo sealed the result in stoppage time.

Sweden international Isak has generally struggled to replicate the form that made him the most expensive player of all time in English football since his move to Merseyside, owing largely to a lack of preseason at Newcastle as the acrimonious and drawn-out nature of his move to Anfield played out.

A groin injury, picked up in the 5-1 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in October, also kept Isak sidelined for close to a month and Mac Allister said he was pleased for his colleague as the Reds secured just their fourth in the last 13 games.
