LIFE ON HISTORIC CITY STREET THAT WAS ONCE HOME TO BEATLE JOHN

- By DANNY GUTMANN

EVERY day people make their way down Canning Street towards the Anglican Cathedral and the many pubs and restaurants that populate the Georgian Quarter.

However, often unnoticed by passersby, one row of houses lies quietly secluded away from the main road, obscured by a large hedge.

Gambier Terrace was named after Lord James Gambier, a Royal Navy Admiral of the Fleet born in the Bahamas in 1756, who saw action during the American Revolutionary War and in the Napoleonic wars.

Numbers one to 10 were given Grade II* status in 1952. It means they are among a select few properties across the city deemed to have particularly special architectural and historical interest.

Over the years, some of the city’s most famous faces have been lucky enough to call Gambier Terrace home. John Lennon and Stuart Sutcliffe lived at number three.
