PILOT SCHEME INVOLVED SCHOOLS AND FIRMS
YOUNG people have a better understanding of - and more interest in - a key employment sector following a pilot scheme.
The Pilot Logistics Beacon, deliv ered by The Careers and Enterprise Company (CEC), Generation Logistics and the Leicester and Leicestershire Careers Hub aimed to tackle low awareness and outdated perceptions about the industry.
Before the pilot, about 2 per cent of GCSE students in Leicestershire expressed an interest in logisticsrelated careers.
Following the pilot, 97 per cent of students report understanding careers in logistics, and 63 per cent are now interested in working in the sector.
The pilot saw 541 workplace experiences involving 16 employers, including Asda, Maersk, DHL and Wincanton.
