Police on the hunt for perpetrator of sex attack in woods

POLICE are hunting the person responsible for a “serious sexual assault” in county woods - despite not having an accurate description of the attacker.

Officers have warned against public speculation about the case, with investigators saying the incident is a “top priority” for the force.

The assault happened just before noon on Thursday when a woman was attacked in Grace Dieu Woods, also known as Thringstone Woods, near Coalville.

The woman was taken to hospital as a precaution and police used dogs to search the woods in the wake of the incident, which was reported at 11.53am.

However, so far the police have not released a description of the person responsible.

That has led police to issue a warning against speculation online as they seek to get an “accurate description of the offender”.

Police had previously said the woman was attacked “by a person not known to her”.
