THE family of a police detective who died of cancer have raised more than £8,800 for Loros and the British Heart Foundation.

Hardip Singh Dayal was a trailblazing officer, who went from being a Pcso on Leicester's Saffron Lane estate to being a detective on the force over his 15-year career.

He died, aged 48, in July after a seven-year battle with cancer.

His wife, Sonia, and their children, Arjan and Eisha, arranged a football match to raise money in memory of both Hardip and his good friend Johnny Singh Bangh, who he played with for GNG Football Club.

The match took place recently at the Riverside Football Club in Rowley Fields, with a veteran team of GNG players - mostly aged over 50 - taking on some of Hardip’s colleagues from the force.

The match, which was won 4-0 by the GNG veterans, raised £8,893.
