SEQUEL THROWS DOWN GAUNTLET WITH NEW HERO
IN February 2017 an unassuming indie metrodvania launched on the PC.
I'd heard next to nothing about Hollow Knight but the picture of its adorable protagonist immediately piqued my interest when I spotted it on Steam.
I was unprepared for just how good it would be the rich world of Hallownest packed full of challenging gameplay, quirky characters, incredible soundscapes and stunning imagery.
Developer Team Cherry released various DLC for the game in subsequent years but one of those planned DLCs became so intricate that in 2019 it was announced it would be released as a standalone game - Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Anticipation has been incredibly high for this sequel, with more than 5.2 million Steam gamers having it on their wishlist as of late August.
There were no review codes ahead of its release, so like thousands of gamers I spent the first weekends of September diving back into that beautiful Hollow Knight world.
Silksong is set in a new map, with a new hero to control, Hornet, who has been kidnapped from Hallownest and transported to the distant kingdom of Pharloom.
And unlike the silent knight from its predecessor, Silksong's Hornet 'speaks' in the form of dialogue boxes, and she can be very sassy.
