Highcross objection is dismissed in attempt to stop Fosse Park bid

OWNERS OF CITY SHOPPING CENTRE BELIEVE THAT SPLITTING SHOP INTO TWO UNITS SETS PRECEDENT
FOSSE Park can go ahead with plans to convert one shop into two units despite objections from bosses at a rival shopping centre.
Blaby District Council had approved the plans last year, but the scheme was back under consideration following opposition from Highcross shopping centre, in Leicester.
The plan went back before the council's planning committee after Highcross bosses put in an official objection.
The opposition stemmed from fears that dividing a unit into two would set a precedent and go against original conditions imposed on Fosse Park to "prevent incremental development".
Highcross had claimed that a "sequential test" which favours city centre locations over out of town locations such as Fosse Park had not been conducted on the application.
