Couple who dedicated lives to estate commemorated

COMMUNITY CHAMPIONS: Doris and Don Connolly, who lived in New Parks
A “TRULY remarkable” couple who dedicated their lives to improving a city estate for the people who live there have been commemorated in a heritage panel.
Committed social campaigners Don and Doris Connolly moved to Pickwell Close, in New Parks, in the 1950s and became active members of the community for over 50 years.
As founding members of the New Parks Residents' Association, they were instrumental in securing the New Parks Community Centre on Oswald Road for the estate - as well as an adventure playground in Glen-field Road.
Both are still enjoyed by residents today.
