City legend backs new app to keep students safe
Leicester Mercury
|September 20, 2025
A LEICESTER City legend has given his backing to a new app which aims to keep students safer on and around campus Emile Heskey hailed the Student Safety App, which launched this week, timed to coincide with Freshers Week as thousands of young people prepare to start university.
-
The app has been developed to provide reassurance to both students and parents during what is often an exciting, yet daunting, transition into university life.
It offers a discreet, practical way for young people to protect themselves and one another.
Features include anonymous incident reporting for concerns such as drink-spiking, knife crime, aggressive door staff or suspicious behaviour.
Each report is verified by a control room before being shared with nearby users.
There are also “Track Me" and “Plan a Safe Route Home" tools, a Fake Call option to help users leave uncomfortable situations, and an SOS button that instantly shares a user's live location with chosen contacts.
