Second bid agreed for battery site in Green Belt

Original plan was blocked last September
PLANS for a fifth battery energy storage system near a North Staffordshire village have been approved at the second attempt. Councillors voted to approve the revised proposals for the BESS at Newfields Farm near Wetley Rocks after blocking the original application last year.
Planning committee members at Staffordshire Moorlands District Council (SMDC) said applicant Newfields BESS Limited had addressed their concerns over issues such as noise and fire safety. The facility, which is intended to support the shift to renewable energy by providing 'balancing services' to the electricity grid, will be made up of 48 battery containers and supporting infrastructure installed in a field next to Cellarhead substation.
