THE Ipstones Historical Society met on 27th March, in the Memorial Hall extension for a talk by Mr Booth on the subject of Staffordshire to Australia and to the Somme, a story of young emigrants.

Mr Booth’s ancestor was a young man from Audley by the name of Oswald Tittle.
He came from a mining family but he decided to set out to make his fortune in Australia. So in 1912 he set sail from Southampton bound for Sydney. After arriving with a friend they settled in Kensington in South Sydney and set up as painters and decorators. Their business was doing well and they purchased a base to operate from on what is now Anzac Street near to the race course.
