Fond farewell to treasurer John

Stalwart official found out branch was at $1m mark

THE longstanding treasurer of a charity is standing down after the amount of money volunteers have raised to help safeguard children hit £1 million.

After 26 years of raising money for the NSPCC - which works to prevent abuse, help rebuild children’s lives and support families - the dedicated group of volunteers has now said farewell to 79-year-old John Howard.

Since 2006, members of the NSPCC's North Staffordshire branch have been organising regular community events to help raise money for vulnerable children and young people.

It was John who examined the branch's monthly fundraising totals and discovered last year that the group was heading for a grand total of £1m.
