DORKING CRICKET CLUB PINPOINT AREAS THAT NEED IMPROVEMENT
IT IS a summer of change for the Surrey Championship but Dorking Cricket Club captain Ben Rogers is embracing the new grounds and coloured kits.
Typically cricket tends to favour tradition over new ideas but this season the top leagues of club cricket in the county have had a shake up.
The biggest change will see the second and potentially even third teams of the county's biggest clubs given the chance to rise up the division - playing first teams from other clubs as they do so.
So Dorking, who finished eight in the Surrey Championship Division Three in 2024, will now be in Division Three West where, as well as the first XIs of the likes of Leatherhead and Chertsey, they will face the second teams of Ashtead, Guildford and Sunbury.
And Rogers believes there will be both perks and challenges to the new format.
"I think it will be an interesting season," the Dorking skipper said. "I think the first change is it will be really exciting to play white ball cricket in coloured kits. I think that's something we're quite positive about.
