Trust launches appeal to save 'vital parts of the web of life'

A nature conservancy group has launched an appeal to save some of the region's most endangered insects.

The large heath butterfly, bog bush cricket and white-faced darter dragonfly were once common across Lancashire's vast peat bogs.

Now, decades of habitat destruction have pushed them to the brink. Following years of restoration work, Lancashire Wildlife Trust is inviting the public to help bring these rare species back home, and with them, the wildlife-rich wetlands they rely on.

The Three Species, One WILD Comeback appeal aims to raise £20,000 to help secure the future of the three insects.

These species all live on our region's lowland peatlands, 96 per cent of which have been lost. Donations to the appeal will directly fund habitat management and restoration, monitoring and surveying, species translocation/breeding programmes, and long-term recovery plans for all three species.
