Statistics have become a driving force on the roads

It is somewhat confusing where the momentum has come from to persecute the country's safest drivers. It certainly isn't from the insurance companies who monitor actual and unmolested accident statistics; ask any new driver under 21?

- Roy Elks, Fleetwood

Perhaps this focus on senior drivers is because on the rare occasion an elderly driver is involved in an accident it garners attention from all media.

The present statistics emitting from the 'get the seniors off the road lobby' are even more inaccurate as they are always searched requesting 'involved in' not 'caused by', which are extremely different, hence the reason the insurance companies completely disagree as to who is the biggest risk on our roads!

Benjamin Disraeli said: "There are lies, damned lies, and statistics"; a good quote which illustrates how easy any numbers can be manipulated to support any argument, so very common in politics.
