Should elections to Preston and Chorley councils go-ahead in 2026 if the authorities are to be abolished two years later?

The government could be asked to cancel some of the local elections scheduled to take place in Lancashire next year, because of the imminent abolition of the councils concerned, the Post understands.
The residents of seven areas are due to head to the polls in May 2026 - Preston, Chorley, West Lancashire. Blackburn with Darwen, Burnley Hyndburn and Pendle.
