New centre provides modern facilities for greater range of activities

The former centre was knocked down having stood since 1969 and funding for the new building was secured from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport with a total of £2.2m pumped into the new build which began in spring 2024 and was undertaken by Tyson construction.

Configuring the building to be able to hold different activities at the same time was a key requirement of the Foxton compared to its previous centre - which could often only run one activity at once due its layout. This was the challenge put to architect John Bridge who designed the building following consultation with the charity's youth groups about its look and feel.

John Bridge, director at Studio John Bridge, said: "It's been inspiring to work with the young people and see the deep understanding they have of how issues like sustainability and energy efficiency influence the design of buildings.

"The new centre will futureproof the charity so its impact can continue, and grow, over the coming generations."

The former Foxton centre on the site had been inspected and found to have reinforced aerated concrete (RAAC) which had forced it to close ahead of schedule due to safety concerns.
