Jota and Silva – in our hearts as champions forever
Lancashire Evening Post
|July 14, 2025
It’s now almost a week since the devastating car crash that claimed the lives of footballers Diogo Jota and his brother André Silva.
But the shock and disbelief that so many have felt still runs deep.
Jota’s teammates at Liverpool and with the Portuguese national squad are utterly heartbroken, having lost not only a colleague but a close friend and mentor.
Grieving fans have flocked to leave tributes to the number 20, who signed in 2020 and helped the club win its 20th league title.
An appeal to fund a mural in his honour reached its target within just 35 minutes; the rest of the £18,000-plus and counting donated will go to charities Jota supported.
