Cut the crusts off the cucumber sandwiches, pipie icing on the cupcakes, top scones with cream and jam and brew the lapsang souchong - Afternoon Tea Week rus from August 11 to August 17.
The week was established to celebrate a tradition that has graced British afternoons since the 1840s when lunch was not a mealtime and dinner was not served until 8pm.
Traditionally, the light meal contains finger sandwiches, scones with jam and clotted cream, cakes and pastries.
