Reform UK swept to victory in the Lancashire County Council elections, in a result one of their number described as "an earthquake".

From a standing start, the party surged past the threshold needed to secure a majority - ending up with 53 seats and claimed some big-name scalps in the process, including ousting Conservative county council leader Phillippa Williamson.
Veterans and the public gathered on the 80th anniversary of VE Day to honour and pay tribute to all the men and women who served during the Second World War. They heard proclamations read and saw beacons lit in Preston, Chorley and elsewhere to mark eight decades since the end of the conflict in Europe.
