Iran FM Fires Back, Sets Stage for High-Stakes Geneva Talks

As the Middle East teeters on the edge of wider conflict, Iran issued a defiant warning to Israel while confirming upcoming talks with European powers in Geneva.
The diplomatic overture follows a wave of Israeli strikes on Iranian nuclear sites and a fiery threat from Israel’s defence minister to assassinate Iran’s Supreme Leader.
"By now, the whole world should know that Iran solely acts in self-defence,” Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi said in a message posted on the social media platform X. He accused Israel of manufacturing regional conflict to derail diplomacy, while reaffirming Iran’s right to act in self-defence.
Araghchi said that Iran has refrained from targeting countries supporting Israel, and warned of Israel’s attempts to “expand the flames to the region and beyond.”
