Behind the rising drug abuse in Kashmiri youth are weak systems, unchecked industries, and pareting that struggles to keep pace. Real change starts at home, but must not end there.
Drug addiction often slips into young lives unnoticed, until the damage is hard to undo. We tell our children to stay away from drugs. But the places that make drugs, and the routes that sell them, remain wide open.
Some of the danger comes from where we least expect it. Drug-producing industries, especially pharmaceutical and chemical companies, continue to release substances that can easily be misused. These are not just the pills you get on prescription. Some end up being misused on the streets, or inside homes where no one is watching.
