Drug abuse has increased sharply, and thousands of young people are now in treatment for opioid addiction. Police reports show more teenagers getting pulled into drug networks.Even those with degrees are struggling to find work, with unemployment much higher than the national average. Doctors and counselors are also seeing more cases of anxiety and depression.
The pressure is visible in the environment too. Dal Lake and Wular Lake continue to shrink as pollution and illegal construction spread.
These interconnected issues are part of daily life in homes and neighborhoods across the valley.
