Taoiseach summit with Xi Jinping during China trip

TAOISEACH Micheal Martin is travelling to China today where he will meet Chinese President Xi Jinping and Premier Li Qiang.

He will first travel to Beijing, engaging in meetings with the Chinese President, Premier and Chairman of the National People's Congress Zhao Leji.

At a time of global turbulence, it's expected Mr Martin will discuss Ireland's bilateral relationship with China, including its economic and trading relationship; EU-China relations and shared global challenges.

The Taoiseach will emphasise the importance of effective multilateral institutions to promote peace and security, and to ensure a fair trading environment.
