Meath boss Brennan says players leave the 2010 hype to the fans

- BY KARL O'KANE

WEE DON'T HEAR NOISE

GER Brennan says the Louth/ Meath 2010 hype is for the fans and won't have any effect on the players ahead of this weekend's eagerly-awaited Leinster final at Croke Park.

The fierce rivals' latest encounter is their biggest since 2010, when Joe Sheridan's last gasp 'goal, where he dived over the line with the ball, denied Louth a first Leinster title since 1957.

A decade and a half later all those memories of one of the biggest controversies in GAA history have been dragged up all over again.

The big difference going into this year's decider is Louth have won their last two encounters with Meath — a huge Division 2 league tie a few weeks ago and an All-Ireland round robin game last summer.

That round robin victory was Louth's first champion-ship win over Meath since 1975, although it wasn't Leinster Championship or a knock out game.

It pales into insignificance compared to this one, with one of the duo set to end Dublin's 14 year-reign as champions.

"Getting results against teams you hadn't been beating for decades probably does help when you break the hoodoo," says Ger Brennan.

"Even back to my own playing time with Dublin, beating Kerry in the National League down in Fitzgerald Stadium in 2009, and then we beat them two years later in the All-Ireland final.

"I think going into this game it will be fairly evenly matched. Both groups of players know each other quite well.
