Walsh has to settle for bronze

IRELAND'S Gráinne Walsh will have to make do with a bronze medal after losing on points to Aida Abikeyeva in her semifinal bout at the World Boxing Championships in Liverpool last night.

Former world champion Abikeyeva was a class above, using her speed advantage to slip past Walsh's frenzied attacks and pick up the unanimous decision victory.

Walsh already had the bronze in the bag going into the fight with her opponent from Kazakhstan thanks to her brilliant 3-2 win over Olympic silver medallist Yang Liu in the previous round.
