Button: Norris & Piastri battle taking toll

- BY DANIEL MOXON

JENSON BUTTON believes the title fight between Lando Norris and Oscar Piastri is "starting to take its toll" on McLaren.

They have been dominant all season but struggled in Baku two weeks ago, with Piastri crashing out while Norris was well down the order in seventh.

Former McLaren racer Button (above) said yesterday: "When you look back at Baku, the McLarens were still quick but their two drivers fighting for the world championship, it's starting to take its toll.

"Then you have Max [Verstappen], who has won four, going out and enjoying himself."

Piastri has been unflappable for most of the year but wobbled for the first time in Baku, crashing in qualifying before jumping the start of the race and then burying his car in the wall on the first lap.

THIS NEWSREADER CAN GENERATE HIS OWN HEADLINES AT CHELMSFORD

NEWSREADER showed regressive form latterly for Kevin Philippart De Foy but a move to Edward Smyth-Osborne in August has seen him return to some of his better form, with the fitting of cheekpieces seemingly a catalyst for his revival in fortunes. His recent resurgence has come on turf, making the frame at both Windsor and Ffos Las, but both his wins have come on the all-weather and there's a strong chance that a return to an artificial surface is going to suit him even better.
