Bid to tackle congestion on streets of capital
-
TRANSPORT is one of the most stubborn parts of the economy when it comes to meeting our emissions targets.
So it is encouraging to see Dublin Bus has wrapped up 2025 with a bang, shattering records and cementing its place as Ireland's biggest public transport operator.
As the city's buses pack in more passengers than ever, the shadow of Dublin's notorious traffic congestion still looms large.
Yet, beneath the gridlock, a bigger story is unfolding: Dublin Bus is at the frontline of the city's fight against climate change, showing how public transport can drive environmental progress even as it battles urban challenges.
The numbers speak for themselves. In 2025, Dublin Bus carried an impressive 164 million customers, up five million from the previous year's record.
On a typical weekday, half a million people hop aboard, with the busiest day - Wednesday, October 8 - seeing 568,000 passengers crisscrossing the city.
