Tagging to help ease prison overcrowding

Minister's new scheme vow by end of the year
ELECTRONIC tagging will be used on prisoners before the end of the year, the Justice Minister Jim O'Callaghan has confirmed.
It will be brought in along with a radical increase of new-look community service schemes to help reduce overcrowding in jails.
Most are overflowing, with 300 to 400 lags currently sleeping on mattresses on the floor in cells.
Mr O'Callaghan said: "I am committed to implementing electronic monitoring.
