Brolly apology for sleazy parody of Aras candidate

- BY SEAN MURPHY

GAA pundit Joe Brolly has issued an apology after depicting an Aras hopeful performing a sex act while on a podcast.

Fine Gael presidential contender Heather Humphreys branded the tawdry clip to promote a podcast as "misogynistic".

The Derry All-Ireland winner defended himself by insisting the item was not about Ms Humphreys or any other actual candidate. However, he clarified he was talking about former Dublin GAA boss Jim Gavin when he made crude gestures simulating someone answering questions about uniting Ireland while giving oral sex.

The clip was filmed for the Free State podcast, featuring Brolly and sidekick Dion Fanning.

It sparked online fury with many claiming it related to the campaign of Ms Humphreys.

The podcast has previously featured an interview with rival Catherine Connolly.

STRONG

Asked about it on the campaign trail yesterday Fine Gael candidate Ms Humphreys said she "won't let something like that knock me back".
