Sam beats Irish faves to Mercury
IRISH eyes were riling last night as singer-songwriter CMAT and rockers Fontaines DC were pipped to the 2025 Mercury Prize by UK star Sam Fender.
The announcement was made at the award ceremony which was held in Newcastle, marking its first time being held outside London.
Jubilant crowds cheered for local lad Fender, who also beat competition from Britpop band Pulp among others for his third album People Watching.
