RIRA BOMBER 'DROVE AT GARDAI AT SPEED'

A REAL IRA bomber - who 'went wild and was out of control' following his sudden release from prison in 2015 - drove at speed at two Gardai at a checkpoint two years later forcing them to jump out of his way, a court has heard.

Aiden Hulme, 47, who was convicted in 2003 following a trial at the Old Bailey in London of conspiring to cause explosions likely to endanger life and possessing explosions, also led the two gardai on a 'dangerous, high-speed pursuit' from Dundalk to Newry on the night.

The Old Bailey trial in 2003 heard Hulme was a member of the Real IRA and was one of six men sentenced to 20 years in prison.

They were released after 13 years in 2015 due to an error in remission dates.
