Parents' 6-month wait for medical review findings on rare virus horror

THE parents of a young boy who died from heart failure after contracting a rare virus are still waiting to hear the findings of an independent medical review six months later.

Logan Murphy, from Macroom in Cork, was six when he prayed in his bed at Cork University Hospital to get better - but died the next day.

Patrick and Lei Murphy went on national radio yesterday to appeal for the results of the external investigation and said they believe more could have been done to save their son.

The coroner's court last month heard Logan became sick in the early hours of August 12, 2024, with stomach pain so bad he could not walk.

Patrick carried him to the car and he was examined by a GP who said Logan “needs to go straight into A&E” because “he’s in trouble”. When they arrived in the hospital emergency unit, young Logan asked: “Am I going to be OK, daddy?”
