O'Donovan not in favour of a streaming tax

MEDIA Minister Patrick O'Donovan has said he is not in favour of a tax on streaming services such as Netflix as it would price them out of most people's reach.

The proposed levy was to help fund Ireland's independent media sector but would have to be paid on top of the TV licence.

Preparations for applying the levy had been taking place during the term of the previous minister, Catherine Martin.

Had it been introduced, it would have meant that households would be paying what is essentially another tax on top of their TV licence.
