COLIN Montgomerie has told competitors at the US Open to “man up” and “get on with it” as talk over the brutal course conditions at Oakmont dominates.

The course is among the toughest venues on the planet, and the United States Golf Association has ensured that every facet of players’ games is tested.

The rough has been cut at a uniform five inches, while the greens are running at a rapid 14.5 on the stimpmeter.

Three-time runner-up Montgomerie believes the current generation of players has it easy thanks to advances in technology, and he told anyone unhappy with the conditions to quit complaining.
