MEMORIAL IS MOOTED FOR TRAGIC TODDLER

A MEMORIAL to toddler Daniel Aruebose on the land where he was secretly buried may be considered in the future as the walkway near his secret burial site is due to reopen to the public in the coming days.

Skeletal remains of a child, believed to be Daniel's, were discovered by gardai searching for the little boy last Wednesday on the marshy wasteland along the Portrane Road in Donabate, north County Dublin.
Donabate councillor Corina Johnston said the idea of a memorial to Daniel could be looked at in the “medium to long term" but added that the tragedy was “still so raw.”
Cllr Johnston has also called for a public inquiry, voicing concern that Daniel appeared to have been in the care of the State for a time.
She is also asking for support for the wider community as they try to come to terms with the tragedy.
“There is a deep sense of sadness and heartbreak around but some relief as well that Daniel's remains were found and that he can now be given a proper burial," Cllr Johnston said, speaking to The Star at the vigil for Daniel on the town's green on Sunday evening.

McGrath eyes top award
TIPPERARY duo John McGrath and Jake Morris will battle it out with Cork's Brian Hayes for the PwC Hurler of the Year award. If McGrath (right) lifts the award - voted for by the GPA's inter-county mem- bership - it would cap a remarkable renaissance year when he won his Tipperary place back and went on to land his third All- Ireland title. McGrath (31) hit 7-16 from play with his goals vital in Tipperary's against-the-head All-Ireland triumph.
